Ways to Give

There are many ways to give a financial gift to Zion Lutheran Church, Saint Marys, Ohio, depending on your personal situation.

Whether it is a cash donation or the transfer of other assets, your gift to Zion costs less than you may think.  Please consult your tax advisor regarding your specific situation.

CASH

A cash gift is the most popular way to give because of its simplicity. Cash contributions can be a one-time gift, an annual gift or pledged over a period of time. Gifts can be made in person, by mail, by phone, or online.

HONOR AND MEMORIAL GIVING

You can remember and honor someone special by making a gift to Zion Lutheran Church in their name.  In their memory.

APPRECIATED PROPERTY


Giving stocks, bonds, mutual funds or real estate will provide greater tax benefits than a cash gift of equivalent value, especially if they have a low cost basis. You will receive a charitable deduction for the full market value.

LIFE INSURANCE


Giving a life insurance policy is an inexpensive way to make a substantial contribution to Zion Lutheran Church. Many people find in later years that they do not need all the insurance they did when they were younger. You may name Zion as sole beneficiary and transfer ownership.

CHARITABLE BEQUESTS MADE IN WILLS OR TRUSTS


The majority of planned gifts that we receive are a result of charitable bequests. Such gifts enable you to make significant contributions that may not have been possible in your lifetime. The most obvious advantage to remembering Zion Lutheran Church in your will is that you reduce estate taxes while still supporting a mission that you believe in.

PLANNED GIFTS

A planned gift is one made or promised from the donor’s assets (typically appreciated assets) or from an estate. Contact your tax advisor for information regarding planned giving.

THRIVENT CHOICE DOLLARS

Thrivent Financial Policy holders are eligible to designate "Thrivent Choice" dollars to non-profit organizations.  Zion is one of the many choices.  For specific answers to your questions, please contact Thrivent at 1-800-847-4836.

BENEFICIARY DESIGNATION

Naming Zion Lutheran Church as the beneficiary of a retirement plan, investment, or other financial account is another easy way to support Zion.  You continue to benefit from these assets during your lifetime.  A beneficiary designation may be changed at any time.

How an IRA charitable rollover gift works

  1. Contact your IRA plan administrator to make a gift from your IRA to Zion Lutheran Church.
  2. Your IRA funds will be directly transferred to the Foundation.
  3. Please note that IRA charitable rollover gifts do not qualify for a charitable deduction.
  4. Please contact us to tell us how you wish your gift to be designated.

Advantages for using this method:

  • Avoid taxes on transfers of up to $100,000 from your IRA to Zion Lutheran Church
  • Satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year
  • Reduce your taxable income, even if you do not itemize deductions
  • Make a gift that is not subject to the deduction limits on charitable gifts

KROGER PLUS CARD

Enroll or renew your Kroger Plus Card online.  Your purchases at Kroger will earn funds for current expenses here at Zion Lutheran Church.  Log on to www.krogercommunityrewards.com to create an account or sign in to access your existing account.   Our organization number is 81889.
